The fletching jig is the first indispensable tool for anyone who wants to start building arrows. There are many different types, materials, and prices, of course.
It is a tool from which we must demand a certain level of precision, ease of use, and durability. Personally, I believe this is the best available, especially considering the price.
This fletching jig has a body and clamp made of steel, an adjustable magnetic positioning, and adjustable notches to fletch with 3, 4, or 6 feathers. It also accepts “large” sized feathers and is very easy to use.
At first use, I recommend calibrating it by placing a shaft without feathers and a feather in the clamp without glue. By positioning the clamp in its seat, we can check by eye that the feather is aligned with the center of the shaft and, by loosening the screws holding the magnet, adjust it accordingly.
Even if not perfectly aligned, this type of fletching jig glues all the feathers in an identical position, guaranteeing perfect radial symmetry and therefore a perfect flight.
There is also a variant with a helical clamp, which allows the arrows to straighten better during the shot, also increasing their braking force.
